Shana Cleveland of La Luz has just released her new record Manzanita. This is a poignant moment to release a record because of the major life-changing events that Shana has recently experienced - recovering from cancer and giving birth. The album title, Manzanita, is the common name for a kind of small evergreen tree endemic to California which has strong medicinal properties. The record is like a tapestry made from black lace and white linen, combining the dark areas that magic holds, juxtaposed with a beauty that's also light and airy. Album track 'Mayonnaise' uses a combination of eerie piano and weeping slide guitar whilst Shana concludes, 'I'll write a thousand songs before I'm done'.
